{"id":135,"date":"2007-09-22T19:30:37","date_gmt":"2007-09-23T01:30:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brucearmstrong.net\/wordpress\/2007\/09\/22\/2007-drag-races\/"},"modified":"2008-04-15T22:30:08","modified_gmt":"2008-04-16T04:30:08","slug":"2007-drag-races","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brucearmstrong.net\/?p=135","title":{"rendered":"2007 Drag Races"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the last couple of years, several of my Oklahoma kinfolk have come down to the DFW metroplex to attend the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oreillyfallnationals.com\/\">NHRA Fall Nationals Drag Races<\/a>. We&#8217;ve had a house full of guests because we live so close to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.texasmotorplex.com\/\">Texas Motorplex<\/a>\u00a0in Ennis, TX, where the races are held. This year, Andrew and I decided to go along to see what all the fuss was about.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/brucearmstrong.net\/gallery\/v\/dragraces2007\/Pictures_with_the_PR_girls.jpg.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright giThumbnail\" style=\"float: right;\" src=\"http:\/\/brucearmstrong.net\/gallery\/d\/5442-2\/Pictures_with_the_PR_girls.jpg\" alt=\"Pictures with the PR girls\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>When we first got to the track, we began to think the whole reason for the event was to get your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brucearmstrong.net\/gallery\/v\/dragraces2007\/Pictures_with_the_PR_girls.jpg.html\">picture taken with PR girls<\/a> from various companies. Soon enough we found out there were other activities, like\u00a0walking up and down pit row checking out the machinery, and playing in driving simulators. In the pits, we heard a few cars started up and &#8220;racked back&#8221;, and we were (almost literally) blown away by the power and noise.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/brucearmstrong.net\/gallery\/v\/dragraces2007\/We_also_saw_some_cars_go_really_fast.jpg.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft giThumbnail\" style=\"float: left;\" src=\"http:\/\/brucearmstrong.net\/gallery\/d\/5436-2\/We_also_saw_some_cars_go_really_fast.jpg\" alt=\"We also saw some cars go really fast\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Eventually, we made it to our excellent seats. We were on the front couple of rows directly even with the starting line. Even that far removed from the action, the power and racket were awe-inspiring. Even with hearing protection, you could feel really it when these 7000-horsepower monsters blasted off.
